Neighbours from across the region came together on September 20th and 21st to raise funds and awareness for Bladder Cancer in the 15th annual Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer events in Wellington and Belleville. Every day, approximately 37 Canadians are diagnosed with the disease; that's 13,400 annually. Bladder Cancer is the most expensive cancer to treat, yet with timely diagnosis the survival rate is 77%. In other words: funding research, support, and early detection quite literally saves lives here at home.
Across both local events, 60 people stepped up to participate and raised over $14,000 toward Bladder Cancer Canada's mission. Funds raised through our local walks directly support programs and patients right here in our community. The effort was championed by local survivor Randy Smith, Chair of Bladder Cancer Canada, alongside Executive Director Michelle Colero, who, together with their team, helped mobilize volunteers and donors throughout Quinte and PEC. Special thanks to Denie Lane for hosting the Belleville walk and bringing the energy!
